Kansas Buckskin Horse Association

January 17, 2007
Sirloin Stockade, Ottawa, Ks

At 7:30pm, President Roy Ratcliffe called the meeting to order. Members attending are: Bonnie Powell, Joyce Scott, Brenda Braden, Cherie Reinheimer, Cathy Webster, Donna Martel, Darrin Fultz, Diane Harkness, Bill Mayer, John and JoAnn Murnane, and several guests.

John Murnane discussed the yearbook, and said all covers are now sold. Advertising rates are very reasonable and are as follows: Full page: $85 Half Page: $50 1/4 Page a $35 Business Card: $25

The deadline for advertising in the yearbook is April 1st, and all members are encouraged to ask businesses to purchase some space, it is very cheep, and books are distributed to all KBHA members. Ads will also be featured at the website, with links to advertiser websites, if available.

A Reminder:
Show dates are as follows: May 19, 20: June 16, 17: July 14, 15: September 8, 9: all shows start at 9am.
The September show is the Futurity show and all breed Jackpot classes are offered then as well.

For the May show, Bonnie Powell will be at the show grounds on Friday before the show from 3:00 until 5:30 to take entries and check papers. You should bring copies of your new ABRA membership cards to the first show, and copies of your horse's ABRA papers. Don't forget to call Bonnie Powell (913-837-3044) if you want to reserve your back number.

Any class sponsorships sold should be sent to the Treasurer: Cathy Webster, 39407 Harmony Rd., Fontana, KS 66026 by May 1st to appear on the first show bill of the season. Sponsorships are $20.00 per class for the entire show season. Sponsors names will appear on the show bills handed out at the shows and will be announced during the class. Where else can $20 get your business mentioned at 8 different shows? And be mentioned on the KBHA Sponsor page on the Web? An outstanding deal!

The board would like to thank Bonnie Powell donating $100 toward the Yearling Challenge. This class is designed to reward the yearling with the highest point total in Halter, Longe line, and In-Hand Trail. Both ABRA and All Breed yearlings are eligible, with all three classes offered for both. Yearlings must be nominated for their points to count. Please check the website for more information, or contact Diana Hird, 785-749-1669.

Discussion followed on the Concession Stand. The May show is covered, but we need volunteers for the rest of the shows. Please contact a board member if you are wanting to work your hours at the concession stand, or would know someone who would like to run it for the June though September shows.

We are looking for volunteers for Ring Stewarding for Saturday. David Webster has gracefully volunteered to work on all the Sunday show dates. If you know of someone that would like to get a judge’s viewpoint of classes, please contact Roy and let him know you are interested.

Discussion on the hiring of an announcer, with 2 possibles mentioned. Joyce Scott will be contacting them with an announcement to be posted before the first show.

Points: after discussion, Pat Hockett volunteered to keep the KBHA points for 2007.

The Jump out fee of $5.00 was discussed, with the clarification that those who rent stalls or pay for trailer hookups would not need to pay that fee.

A suggestion was made to change future showbills to show fees per Judge, for clarification, to show we are very competitive in pricing with other shows in the area.

Website: Cherie Reinheimer has volunteered to create and maintain a website for KBHA. The new website name will be www.ksbuckskin.com . Futurity information, news, shows, events, sponsors and more will be listed on the website. Please take the time to look over the website, and give feedback to board members and the webmaster, her e-mail will be at the bottom of every page on the site. Members, who have webpages, please submit them for links and a reciprocal link back to KBHA is appreciated.

Darrin Fultz has volunteered to get our website and show information out to the free publications in the area, including the Checkerboard corral, Horse power, and Horse Trails and Tails.

Text only classified ads are FREE for members, and will be in both the newsletter and the website -
3 month duration.

Stalls were discussed, with it being mentioned they need to be taken down and put back up the first Saturday of May for the Lawrence Swap Meet. Volunteers are needed to help with this. Please contact Roy or Darren for more info. We will be taking the stalls down 4/15/07.

Darrin Fultz is in charge of stall reservations for the shows, 913-352-8385.

A cookout for June 16, in honor of Father’s Day was discussed, along with a “Dad At Halter” fun class.

The June Shows will offer Circuit Awards!!! Pictures will be taken, both in the ring, and at a selected spot, and the horse with the most points in their class will receive an 8x10 glossy picture. To qualify for a circuit award, you must show to all 4 judges for June 16th and 17th and pay a fee to cover shipping or pick up your picture at the next show. Pictures can also be taken for anyone wanting an 8x10 for $20 or a CD of the original picture can be purchased for $30.

Respectfully Submitted,
Cherie Reinheimer,
